Spring is here and this means all sorts of exciting things in the food world.
Spring means new menus:
I recently went to my first TwEATup Brisbane dinner at Bucci, Fortitude Valley, for the launch of their new Spring menu to a near full restaurant of food Twitterati. (You can see some of the exciting meals on their Spring at Bucci Facebook album).
I also was invited along as a guest to The Red Hen, West End, to taste how Italians (and their Sicilian chef) embrace spring weather. Having never been here before, it’s easy to forget that there is a nice stretch of dining along Hardgrave Road. I loved the eggplant parcels and the chicken meatballs that were served in a white wine sauce which basically shouted spring chicken vegie soup and were quickly gobbled up!
They have a really cool function room downstairs which has it’s own bar. Though I didn’t try it (but everyone else did), I’ve been told that their brownies are worth fighting for. Definitely keeping this place in mind for future events!
New York-style restaurant, The Manhattan Club, Fortitude Valley, with their new menu (and until tomorrow night, they have a special 3 courses for $35!). I’ve been meaning to come here for drinks for a while and never actually considered eating there. The mains have super reasonable prices from $18-$22!
Spring means new restaurants and bars:
The last to open up in the along River Quay, South Bank’s newest dining precinct, is French restaurant Aquitaine Brasserie. Suss out their menu (pdf!) which includes a separate bar menu to go along with their very informative wine and drinks list.
The hype surrounding Alfred & Constance (Facebook) over the last few months have been astounding. They literally keep popping up everywhere. In line with that, this Friday and Saturday they are hosting their very own Pork, Cork & Fork festival – sampling their food including their already famous pork rolls as well as cocktails from their tiki bar!
Spring means having an adventure:
Save the date for October 15 – 20. James St are holding a Food & Lifestyle trail. There’s so much going on that week you want to check out the program NOW. Already events at Gerard’s Bistro have sold out and they’ve announced a second Spring Degustation – 5 courses WITH wine for $80! This is great value.
Finally, Spring means enjoying a drink and good company:
Congrats to the winners from the Australian Bar awards:
