Brisbane Festival 2013

It’s that time of the year again where Brisbane welcomes springier days with celebrations all around town. Brisbane Festival runs from 7 – 28 September. September remains one of my favourite months.

Brisbane Festival is a world class arts festival that explodes onto the scene every September with an exciting program of music, theatre, dance, comedy, opera, circus and much more.

By now, many of you will have at least seen a 4 metre-tall pink bunny. They’re literally all around Brisbane, set up by Stormie Mills, who is fast becoming a household name. Make sure you follow the hashtag #TheStormieMillsProject on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to see where they pop up next! They’re multiplying… like rabbits. Personally, I love the bright pink colour that matches the Brisbane Festival colour theme. I think they’re really positive and happy, despite having no faces. Bunnies are synonymous with cute. I like cute things.

My list for this year include a whopping 8 shows! I love multi-tix discounts, which start from 3+ shows at 10% off total ticket price up to 5+ shows with a huge 20% off!

New to Brisbane Festival this year is the additional of the QUT Theatre Republic. A pretty lounge with seats inside tents and an outdoor bar set up in the central heart of the QUT Creative Industries precinct.

The City of Lights which light up the Brisbane River (twice nightly at 7pm and 8.30pm, thrice on Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm) steps it up this year with live dancers (Melbourne dance collective, Strange Fruit) on the river barge.

Of course, no event is without food. This year, Festival Flavours brings even more to the dinner table with 19 amazing restaurant venues offering a unique Festival Flavours dish. Click the previous link for a list of all participants. Most venues are offering a main and a drink for a very nice $30. One of my favourite picks:

Gerard’s Bistro – Sweet spiced lamb kefta, winter tabouli, flatbread and condiments, paired with a glass wine.

YUM. Such good value!

There’s even a cool Instagram competition using the hashtag #FestivalFlavours when dining at one of these restaurants. You could win tickets to Brisbane Festival shows, restaurant & bar vouchers plus much more!

Here’s my picks for this year:

I’ve already seen the lights as well as Hello My Name is. 6 more shows to go!

September is Brisbane.
