Elixir Rooftop Bar is a secret hideaway smack bang in the middle of Fortitude Valley. Tucked away on Ann Street it’s a private oasis away from the busy dirty streets. Small and intimate, it feels like an Alice in Wonderland adventure as you follow the rabbit up the stairs.
And now on Wednesdays from 4pm, you can choose a burger with sweet potato chips for a cool $12.50. Make your choice between the sophisticated, Elixir signature “black burger”
- Lamb, spinach, and haloumi with beetroot, tomato, lettuce and a delicious black garlic and mint yoghurt
Or a classy “white burger”
- Chicken breast, pancetta, buffalo mozzarella, tomato, rocket and roasted red pepper sauce
If you haven’t heard yet, black garlic is one of the secret additions known to the Japanese and Koreans for a long time and you damn well bet you’ll start seeing it everywhere. Because it’s delicious. That’s why. It’s more or less slow-cooked garlic with all the taste and none of the pungency.
I couldn’t pass up the black burger because as the old saying goes “if it contains haloumi, order it”. The creamy garlic-y mint yoghurt dressing was the perfect sauce to soak into the bun and complimented the juicy lamb patty. The sweet potato chips are unlike anything I expected. Crunchy, light curls of sweet potato sprinkled with sea salt flakes. Slightly fiddly but who cares for manners – you would literally want to shovel this in your mouth.
If you’re up for a sunset early dinner and a good selection of drinks on hump day then come to Elixir Wednesdays.
