Undress Runways: Undress Gold Coast + QANTAS PitchUp award finalists

Undress Brisbane has over the years evolved into Undress Runways as Edda Hamar, the director, has begun her vision to spread sustainable fashion within Brisbane to a larger scale.

Earlier this year, they held their first runway fashion show in Melbourne.

Later this month, they’ll also be doing their first fashion show on the Gold Coast. For something different, it will be a rooftop, sunset runway show. The Gold Coast event will feature 18 of the top Australian sustainable designers from around the country.

Details are:

Runway show: 5pm
Markets + music + pop-up bar: 3pm – 9pm
When: Saturday 26th April, 2014
Where: 10 Beach Road, Surfers Paradise

Tickets are free for general admission. Tickets for front-row seats can be purchased for $45.

Edda is a busy entrepreneur. She made the cut as a QANTAS Foundation ‘PitchUp Awards’ finalists.

As a finalist, Undress Runways have the opportunity to win $20,000 and launch a sustainable fashion online shop – connecting YOU to your favourite sustainable designers.

To help them, all you have to do is:

Undress Brisbane Runway – Pozible campaign

Undress Brisbane are a fantastic team of people who want to showcase the world of eco-friendly, sustainable fashion whilst educating and spreading the word to Brisbane and to the rest of Australia. To achieve this, they are making over the Chinatown car park in Fortitude Valley and turning it into a runway – whilst serving organic cocktails, food, live music, sustainable design exhibitions. A fashionably fun-filled night.

This year the runway show will be on October 12.

We’re going to host the biggest sustainable fashion show Australia has ever seen.

But we need your help.

1000 guests.
28 sustainable designers.
3 runway shows.
1 cause.

Our vision: To create a world where our enjoyment of fashion reflects a respect for the environmental and the societies who manufacture it.

Sustainable designers swim upstream. With little support in a very crowded marketplace, our mission is to put these designers into the spotlight.

Undress Brisbane is a sustainable fashion show. Featuring established and emerging sustainable designers and vintage labels, we shed light on designers that are paving a way to a better fashion industry.

Undress Brisbane will open your eyes to the world of sustainable fashion. Think ‘no-waste’ collections, ethical production, ‘food dyed’ garments, natural fibres, and unique pieces made from off-cuts.

Popping up at in a nearby car park, serving organic cocktails and exhibiting sustainable fashion from around Australia, Undress Brisbane is creating an atmosphere for change.

Get behind our sustainable fashion designers and help Undress Brisbane reach new levels.

We’re changing the fashion industry.

Weekend: 6 – 7 July

So it’s the first weekend from the middle of 2013. Congratulations everyone! You’ve made it this far.

As with the usual Brisbane weather, it also appears that winter has past it’s peak and is already beginning to warm up. Excellent weather around the low 20s and lots of sunshine/minimal clouds are a blessing for the plenthora of events and sales and activities this weekend.

Brisbane, do your best! Make sure you get out and enjoy this wonderful time of the year 🙂

Saturday 6th July:

Garage sale at BoxVintage, next door to The End. Along Vulture Street in the heart of West End. Head in early to grab the best vintage finds!

The annual Teneriffe Festival is back for it’s 4th year! All the details you need can be found here. Since I’m also nice and feeling linky, here’s a direct link to a pdf of the festival programme.

There’s lots of activities for the whole family. There’s a fashion parade, live music, historical displays (Teneriffe used to be a giant wool station!), market stalls promoting local businesses and even a farmer’s market! Nearby restaurants and bars will have specials on the day as well!

The famous Pork, Fork & Cork laneway party from Alfred & Constance is making a return. Also on the day there will be a pop-up cantina from Chilliwow, the new Mexican-themed bar in Fortitude Valley which replaced Barsoma. Both pop-ups will be offering drinks and food galore. Both will be having subsequent after parties at their original venues too! A&C are offering free buses to A&C too!

Aside from the food and drinks, there’ll be heaps of activities for children with a KidsWorld set up including barnyard animals (eeeee!) and even a piglet race (eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!). If you don’t find me pigging out myself, you’ll find me dying from cuteness overload.

Cookbook and magazine swap is happening from 2pm at Shady Palms Cafe. Get some new inspiration for dinner! 427 Logan Road, Stones Corner.

Sunday 7th July:

Suitcase Rummage is on again! Feel free to haggle for a good price or bonus items on the cheap, especially if you’re buying a few items from a seller. They will have to haul it all back at the end of the day!

ZZZ Rock n Roll BBQ on again 2pm this Sunday! Featuring The Skeletones, Goldstool, Hanny J & Antichrists Anonymous. 633 Ann St, Fortitude Valley. Free entry!

Over Saturday and Sunday:

The Finders Keepers markets will be back in Brisbane for Autumn/Winter 2013. The first one of 2013, the Spring/Summer is not until November so don’t miss out! The Brisbane markets showcases over 65 stalls over 3 studios! Note that this is not a free event anymore, there’s a $2 entry fee.

The markets will be held at the heritage listed Old Museum, next to the RNA showgrounds in Brisbane. The markets brings together new contemporary independent artists and designers. Every market event is unique and we always rotate our designers and introduce new ones, as well as featuring live music and with a garden bar & food stalls! Finer details can be found here.

If you’re still running out of things to do this weekend, there’s always parks and museums and art galleries and new bars (Capulet, Elixir) and restaurants (Depo) to visit!
